George Abel Gregory was born to Abel J. and Sarah M. "Sallie" Owen on 6 January 1866 in Macon County, Tennessee. He first married Martha D. "Mattie" Owen Abt. 1887. When she died, he married second Camila Susan "Cammie" Kirby Abt. August 1900. Cammie was the housekeeper for George and Mattie and cared for their children which she raised as her own after Mattie's death. Brother G.A. Gregory joined the Days Cross Roads Missionary Baptist Church in Macon County, TN in 1890 and became a Deacon in 1897. George Gregory was a merchant and peddler and owned and operated the old Pumpkintown Grocery Store in Pumpkintown, Macon County, TN until he became ill and his son, Robert Gregory, ran the store which was sold in August 1936. George Gregory died 5 January 1940 in Macon County and is buried in the Enon Cemetery next to Cammie.
