Submitted by Celeste Miller Jeremiah "Jerry" Gregory was born Abt. 1766 in Chatham Co., North Carolina to John Gregory and Judy (Morgan) Gregory.  Jeremiah received 84 1/2 acres from his deceased father's estate in 1802 and after this time his widowed mother brought her family to Smith Co., TN. Jeremiah came also with his wife, Barbara (Rawls) Gregory.  Jeremiah lived on Nickojack Branch on the waters of Peytons Creek in Smith County, TN and can be found in the 1820, 1830 and 1840 Smith County censuses.  In 1837, Jeremiah was listed on the tax lists for District 3 Smith Co., TN.  In 1850, he can be seen living in Smith County with his son, Joel L. Gregory, and his family.  Jeremiah was a farmer and an early member of Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church near Pleasant Shade.
